This Month In Clay Target Nation

June 26, 2025 By hdyer

With skeet and sporting clays competitions heating up all over the country, the July issue of Clay Target Nation is packed with event coverage as well as tips and advice from our experts.

In our Training Tips columns, we’re publishing our last article from the late Barry Hartmann, in which he reminds skeet shooters of the importance of persistence and determination. On the sporting clays side, Gil Ash warns against cutting your eyes back to the target and urges shooters to track the target with their nose.

This year, we’re celebrating CTN’s 10th anniversary by bringing you one article each issue from our 2016 archives, and in July, that’s an article from John Shima that reminds shooters of an important fact we tend to forget: It’s just a target. Goals are great, but at the end of the day, what really matters? We also have a great article from sporting clays champion Haylyn Hanks about how to find the coach that meshes with your personality and your goals.

Of course, there’s event coverage galore, with articles on the Briley Blue Goose, the Krieghoff Masters, the Armed Services Skeet Championship and, of course, the U.S. Open Sporting Clays Championship. You’ll find Champion and Lady Champion Todd Hitch and Madison Sharpe on the cover, as well as a full article and a bonus photo gallery.
